Horseneck Beach Campground

BSC Group was selected to provide planning and design services for improvements at the Department of Conservation and Recreation’s (DCR) Horseneck Beach Campground in Westport. The campground, which is among one of the most popular of DCR’s facilities, was in need of site-wide improvements to provide a more efficient, sustainable, resilient and enjoyable camping experience.

Elements of the project include master planning to optimize the number of campsites and provide safe circulation within the campground. The design will accommodate a convenient yet managed access to the beach; utility upgrades to provide electrical service to the campsites; ­environmental permitting for the coastal property; resiliency planning to assure that ­improvements can respond to potential impacts of climate change; and upgrades to the site’s existing playing courts and playground. Additional features include the provision of handicapped accessible facilities and upgrades to the site’s two small buildings.
