Dick Cook, a former BSC Group principal, passed away on May 5, 2020. Dick’s career at BSC spanned 27 years, ending in his retirement in 2008. A graduate of Tufts University, Dick was a long-time Hingham resident and served as a member of the Hingham Planning Board. At BSC, Dick was best known for his leadership of the firm’s South Shore and Cape Cod regions, where he worked on a variety of project types.
A highlight of Dick’s career was the successful redevelopment of the Hingham Shipyard, which transformed an aged and abandoned World-War-II era industrial site into a vibrant, waterfront, mixed-use development. Over the course of two decades, the complex project overcame significant challenges, including intensive environmental permitting, a land swap with the MBTA, and coordination with multiple private development clients to achieve a visionary example of today’s Transit Oriented Development trend.
At BSC, Dick will be remembered for his quiet voice, love of the Red Sox, signature blue blazer, and ever-present backpack.
