A long-time leader of the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) and an advocate for a global approach to wetlands preservation, Gillian Davies received two important accolades at last week’s SWS Annual Meeting. Gillian was both honored with the President’s Service Award and voted President-Elect of SWS’s Professional Certification program.
From the SWS handbook: “The President’s Service Award recognizes those members who have made significant contributions by serving the Society and its members. Recipients of the Service Award have promoted the goals of the Society in efforts that extended above and beyond their duties as teachers, researchers, and administrators.”
In particular, Gillian was recognized for her work on Public Policy and Regulation Section Clean Water Act policy comment letters and the Ramsar Section and the SWS Climate Change and Wetlands Initiative on emerging issue of rights of wetlands.
As president-elect for the SWS Professional Certification Program, Gillian will work with the executive board to advance professional wetlands certification around the world to elevate the profession at the international level.
