Following an intensive public engagement process, the Town of Old Lyme voted to fund the construction of BSC’s Complete Streets design for Hartford Avenue. Project elements include renovating Hartford Avenue with 6-foot-wide, handicapped-accessible sidewalks, sign posts, benches, bike racks, parallel parking, and markings on the street to indicate that bikes share the road. BSC’s principal-in-charge, Kurt Prochorena, PE, explained the details of the project at a well-attended town meeting where residents approved up to $877,000 for the construction. A federal grant, administered through the Connecticut Department of Transportation, is expected to cover 80 percent of the expenses.
