The Criterion at Bedford, a 17-acre mixed-use (residential, retail, office and parking) development, has been accepted as a pilot project under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) program. This new rating system integrates the principles of smart growth, urbanism, and green building into the first national standard for neighborhood design. LEED-ND is a collaboration between the U.S. Green Building Council, the Congress for the New Urbanism, and the Natural Resources Defense Council. The program criteria include four major categories: smart location and linkages, neighborhood pattern and development, green construction and technology, and innovation and design processes. A total of 371 applications were received and accepted. BSC, which provided site design and permitting for the project, is currently assisting client Criterion Development Partners with the certification process.
