Massachusetts Senator Edward Markey’s office directly invited BSC coastal scientist and manager of ecological services Matthew Creighton, PWS, MVP, to join the Cape and Islands Dredging Summit, which discussed permitting issues and ways regulators can make changes to expedite the permitting process. The Cape and Islands Dredging Summit, part of the Dredge Advisory Committee for the Barnstable County Dredge Program, was held on Tuesday, December 12, and brought together elected officials, key stakeholders, and experts from Cape Cod to address challenges related to regional dredging.
Several representatives from Senator Markey’s office, Senator Elizabeth Warren’s office, and Congressman Bill Keating’s office attended the Cape and Islands Dredging Summit, as well as Massachusetts state Representative Steven Xiarhos. Representatives from various state and federal regulatory agencies presented at the summit and explained their permitting review processes.
