At their 19th Annual Project Team Awards banquet, The Connecticut Building Congress (CBC) awarded the Town of Windham’s Charles H. Barrows STEM Academy with a merit award in the K-12 schools category. Each year CBC recognizes project teams within the architecture, engineering, and construction industries whose team members exemplified project team excellence and achieved higher project quality through teamwork and collaboration amongst project owners, architects, engineers, construction managers, and trades. Projects are judged on the following criteria, documented team cooperation/collaboration from conceptual design through project completion, team’s approach to the projects unique challenges, meeting the owner’s budget and schedule constraints, and project’s social, economic, or sustainable design considerations.
BSC Group provided survey, civil engineering, traffic engineering, and landscape architecture services for the design of the Charles H. Barrows STEM Academy, a new regional magnet school in Windham, Connecticut. BSC’s final design included site grading, new utilities, stormwater management systems, vehicular/bus access, loading and parking facilities, athletic fields, playgrounds, and outdoor educational spaces. The design incorporated significant low impact components such as solar energy, rain gardens, and bio infiltration swales. The Charles H. Barrow STEM Academy is the first pre-K through 8 magnet school in the region.
