Thank you to the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) for inviting Kathryn Eagan, PE, and Jeanette Tozer, AICP, to speak on the Dirt Road Climate Resiliency Study at VTrans’ Transportation Planning Initiative meeting last month. Eagan and Tozer discussed their work assessing the vulnerability of rural dirt roads for the Towns of Sheffield, New Marlborough, and Sandisfield, in Western Massachusetts. The study was conducted within the context of climate resilience, and its findings and solutions are relevant to Vermont communities facing the adverse impacts of climate change on rural dirt roadway infrastructure. We appreciate VTrans for providing a platform to collaborate on strengthening the climate resilience of rural New England.
