Charlie Foster joins the BSC team as our new Coastal Program Manager to support the growing demand for projects that create more resilient, vibrant, and ecologically healthy coastal areas.
Charlie brings over two decades of coastal ecology, environmental project management, and ecological restoration experience and will work across all BSC services to serve coastal client needs.
Working on projects along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, Charlie has dedicated his career to restoring coastal habitats and developing and implementing coastline resilience measures. He led a program to help restore the livelihoods of commercial fishermen after Hurricane Katrina, contributed to the first studies using oysters for living shorelines, analyzed long-term population and migration trends for coastal birds in South Texas, and secured millions of dollars for habitat restoration work in New England. He recognizes that restoration involves not only repairing fish and wildlife habitats but also revitalizing communities and the environment for future generations.
Charlie’s expertise further includes salt marsh restorations, dam removals, road/stream crossings, working waterfronts, living shorelines, and other nature-based solutions. Charlie led stakeholder engagement and served as principal investigator for a major dam removal project in Maine, helping to restore vital habitat for endangered Atlantic salmon and other sea-run fish. He has also served as senior project manager for several salt marsh restoration projects, totaling over 500 acres.
Outside of work, Charlie enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the mountains, rivers, bays, and islands around his home in Downeast Maine.
