BSC is excited to participate in and speak at the 2024 Northeastern Transportation & Wildlife Conference, which will take place from September 8 to 11 at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa in Mystic, CT.
This conference brings together experts and stakeholders to discuss the intersection of transportation infrastructure and wildlife conservation, aiming to share insights and strategies that promote environmental sustainability and connectivity in our region.
Diana Walden will co-present with our partner, CTDOT, on the strategies used for invasive species management and wildlife habitat enhancement in an off-site mitigation area as part of the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield Rail Program Main Line Improvements.
This presentation will delve into the challenges and successes of managing a 22-acre site within the Connecticut River watershed, focusing on controlling the spread of purple loosestrife and enhancing wildlife habitats.
Dr. Sarah Barnum, alongside our partners from MassDOT and the Wildlife Connectivity Institute, will co-present a progress report on Massachusetts’ State Wildlife Transportation Action Plan (SWTAP). This initiative, supported by the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aims to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions and improve habitat connectivity across Massachusetts.
The presentation will summarize the SWTAP’s development, and the steps being taken to integrate wildlife considerations into transportation planning effectively.
We look forward to connecting with colleagues and sharing our experiences in these critical areas of environmental sustainability and transportation planning.
