Childe Hassam Park Design

The Friends of Childe Hassam Park and the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department retained BSC to design a passive park for their South End neighborhood in Boston.  This diminutive 2,670 square-foot park is located at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Chandler Street and was the site of an existing passive park that was in need of updating.

Named for a former resident and famous impressionist painter, Childe Hassam, BSC’s park design combines artwork, landscaping, seating and a plaza area configured as two outdoor rooms in a keyhole design. The park is surrounded by custom ornamental iron picket fence with a bronze relief of Childe Hassam set into a decorative gate post at the main entrance to the park.
